Oliver Twinsafe Valves Supplied for MEG Injection Pump Systems

Oliver Twinsafe is to supply Double Block and Bleed pipeline valves for use on Monoethylene glycol (MEG) injection pump systems. MEG is a widely used hydrate inhibitor designed to reduce the risk of hydrate formation in pipelines that could cause blockages.

The order includes a batch of 2 1/16” API 6A 5000psi Double Block and Bleed valves in A182 F55 Super Duplex material that have been dynamically tested to meet the requirements of API 6A PSL level 3. In addition, the valve designs were pre-qualified to API 6A PR2 Appendix F, which involves multiple cycle testing at low, ambient and high temperature with zero leakage allowed across the valve seats throughout these cycles.

A number of Oliver instrumentation valves have also been ordered, taking the total number of valves supplied for this offshore project overall to over 300 with more valves in the pipeline.

SIL 3 Certification for Oliver Twinsafe

Oliver Twinsafe Trunnion Mounted valves and Floating Ball Valves have successfully been SIL certified at level 3. This new and important milestone provides operators with safety assurances at the highest level and has resulted from many months of engineering design, QA reviews, and audits.

A SIL (Safety Integrity Level) is a measure of safety system performance, in terms of probability of failure on demand (PFD). The higher the SIL level, the higher the associated safety level, and the lower probability that a system will fail to perform properly. SIL 3 is the highest rating that can be given to a valve.

High Integrity Pressure Protection Systems (HIPPS) and remotely located well-head manifolds are normally associated with SIL certification. Operators are to gain additional safety assurances from installing our ball valves, in that, when the valve is required to perform its fail-safe function, the probability of it not performing is extremely low.

SIL 3 certification has been awarded by Exida, a third-party safety assessment organisation. The certification covers our range of Single Isolate valves, and Double Block and Bleed valves comprising two separate isolates within the assembly. Bore sizes for Trunnion Mounted valves range from 1” – 16” and 1” – 3” on Floating Ball valves.

Oliver Twinsafe Engineers Let Off Steam

Oliver Twinsafe, in partnership with their official distributor HT-PCE, collaborated with an industrial processing plant in solving huge leakage problems experienced on steam applications.

Their existing metal-seated valve design had to be improved and even replaced, and for good reasons. Their valves had only a single isolation design, and exposed the risk of leakage due to the number of potential leak paths they contained.

The perfect solution would be for the valve design to have far fewer leak paths, metal-seating with zero-seat leakage, and a compact design that reduces overall space and weight.

Fast forward a few weeks and the engineering team at Oliver Twinsafe custom-designed a 2” / 300lb Double Block and Bleed (DBB) valve supplied complete with actuators and utilisation of all ball valve operation. The team took onboard all of the technical requirements, used existing and proven valve technology and materials to create the perfect solution to this problem. It’s often said, that when engineers creatively let off steam, it usually results in some of the most amazing solutions, and this has been no exception.

On completion of initial trials, the 2” DBB valves are to be installed on other UK and overseas processing plants.

Oliver Twinsafe to Supply Hinkley Point C

Oliver Twinsafe has been commissioned by Caley Ocean to manufacture a mix of 2″ and 3″ bore, single isolate valves for two nuclear reactors at Hinkley Point C.

The valves have been custom designed for use on the power station’s cooling system. Works on dredging and disposal of sediment in the Severn Estuary began in 2018, ahead of the installation of heads for the cooling water system which will consist of six vertical shafts drilled into the seabed of the Bristol Channel.

Until now, the UK hasn’t seen construction of a new nuclear power station for over 20 years. Located on the west coast of Somerset, Hinkley Point C has plans for two nuclear reactors capable of powering more than 6 million homes, and will produce 3,260MW of secure, low carbon electricity for the next 60 years. Thousands of jobs are to be created, bringing long-lasting benefits to the local and national UK economy.

Oliver Twinsafe Valves are world-renowned for their reliability of operation in the harshest of environments found anywhere in the world. Their customised approach to providing pipeline valve solutions, perfectly positions them as the market-leader for pipeline ball valves in sizes up to 16”.

Oliver Twinsafe Welcomes McDermott International

Oliver Twinsafe welcomed esteemed guests from McDermott International to their headquarters in Knutsford, England. On a special visit to discuss ongoing projects and to see the latest order progress on the factory floor, it was also a great opportunity to showcase the latest development of a new range of valves for severe service applications.

Director of Market Development for Oliver Twinsafe and Hydcovalves, Nick Howard, along with Inside Sales Manager, Richard Featherstone, introduced Guru Shetty and Sandeep Gurjar from the McDermott team to Twinsafe’s 5 mainstay product groups, they included; Zero Leakage with Metal Seats, Low Fugitive Emission at High Temperature, Low Temperature to -196°C, and Metal Seated Valves at High Temperature up to 500°C.

An exciting discussion point during the tour was the large bore pipeline and transportation valves for hydrogen applications. These could be seen going through on the testing rigs and at the assembly stage. Twinsafe’s transportation valves have been certified by a third-party using 99.9% hydrogen.

Speaking after the visit, Oliver, General Manager for the Middle East, Anurag Srivastava, expressed his gratitude to Guru and Sandeep for taking time-out to visit the UK facilities, saying; “Guru and Sandeep have been very impressed by who they’ve met and of the state-of-art manufacturing facilities that we have in operation. Both feel well assured having been witness to the outstanding quality control procedures and measures that are standardised and implemented across all four of Oliver’s UK sites. This visit has certainly strengthened our existing relationship further, and having thoroughly enjoyed their company, we very much look forward to welcoming them back in the near future.”
