Oliver Twinsafe Welcomes McDermott International

Oliver Twinsafe welcomed esteemed guests from McDermott International to their headquarters in Knutsford, England. On a special visit to discuss ongoing projects and to see the latest order progress on the factory floor, it was also a great opportunity to showcase the latest development of a new range of valves for severe service applications.

Director of Market Development for Oliver Twinsafe and Hydcovalves, Nick Howard, along with Inside Sales Manager, Richard Featherstone, introduced Guru Shetty and Sandeep Gurjar from the McDermott team to Twinsafe’s 5 mainstay product groups, they included; Zero Leakage with Metal Seats, Low Fugitive Emission at High Temperature, Low Temperature to -196°C, and Metal Seated Valves at High Temperature up to 500°C.

An exciting discussion point during the tour was the large bore pipeline and transportation valves for hydrogen applications. These could be seen going through on the testing rigs and at the assembly stage. Twinsafe’s transportation valves have been certified by a third-party using 99.9% hydrogen.

Speaking after the visit, Oliver, General Manager for the Middle East, Anurag Srivastava, expressed his gratitude to Guru and Sandeep for taking time-out to visit the UK facilities, saying; “Guru and Sandeep have been very impressed by who they’ve met and of the state-of-art manufacturing facilities that we have in operation. Both feel well assured having been witness to the outstanding quality control procedures and measures that are standardised and implemented across all four of Oliver’s UK sites. This visit has certainly strengthened our existing relationship further, and having thoroughly enjoyed their company, we very much look forward to welcoming them back in the near future.”

Oliver Valves Supply British Columbia Project

Oliver Valves was selected by a Polish compressor manufacturer to be their main supplier of Double Block and Bleed Valves. This agreement includes the scope of supply for stainless steel valves ranging from ½” to 2” with a pressure rating of up to 1500lb.

A large quantity of valves will be used on a new Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) export facility in Canada – the Woodfibre LNG project. Located near Squamish, British Columbia, the project will be the cleanest LNG facility in the world, and production is estimated to last 40 years, creating many local jobs for the whole duration. The site, once used as a pulp and paper mill for 100 years, and by the Squamish Nation people, received environmental approval which was also ground-breaking in that, consent given by an Indigenous people in the absence of a treaty was first of its kind, and today, they remain a full regulator on the project.

Working closely with suppliers, manufacturers and end-users in the LNG sector, Oliver Valves certainly has the pedigree of delivering major projects. Project Sales Manager Neil Barnett explains, “Oliver are a well-established and leading valve manufacturer, and has significantly expanded its business over some 45 years. One reason for its success is continuous investment in testing, automation and R&D facilities. Engineering collaboration with clients’ teams also helps us to gain a deep understanding of their needs. Ultimately, all this allows us to create customised valve solutions at scale, and new technology that make applications possible, such as we have for Low Temperatures down to -196°C, and Hydrogen and Carbon Capture.”

Oliver Twinsafe Customise Valve for Gryphon FPSO

Oliver Twinsafe manufactures a 10” x 8”, 900 class valve as a customised solution for the Maersk Gryphon floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) that’s now owned by Total Energies and is operating 200 miles off the Aberdeen coast. The vessel is connected to subsea well clusters at a water depth of 112 metres, and equipped with topside production facilities to separate gas, oil, water mixtures and compression of gas for export.

Offshore installations such as an FPSO, give critical consideration to the space and weight of valve design, so compact design is key. Twinsafe manufactured a valve to a Compact Standard Length (CSL), with face-to-face dimensions in accordance with ASME B16.10. The double block and bleed design allows the valve to be installed within the same space as a single isolated ball valve, but with two isolates and a bleed valve positioned in between to maximise safety.

The first isolated ball valve is fitted with a Rotork spring pneumatic actuator that’s fitted with a limit switch for remote and local visual indication of the valve position, and a control panel containing the air filter regulator and solenoid valve. The second isolated valve is fitted with a manual gearbox.

Oliver Valves Win Project Packages off the Qatar Pennisula

Oliver Valves won multiple project packages on the North Field Production Sustainability (NFPS) project. Since 2021, Oliver’s has been working closely with digital control system suppliers on the project to offer specialised engineering support and guidance, in particular around Pressure Transmitter Manifold Bids. Many factors are key to building a successful working partnership and one core strength of Oliver Valves is their well-versed knowledge of project specifications in the region, and this proved invaluable and instilled confidence in the supplier’s team to go on to win the bids.

Oliver Valves have provided customised valve solutions since 1979. In this time, engineers have trailblazed the way in valve design, safety and innovation and have set industry benchmarks in standards. Cost and lead-times were two major considerations for the project bids. Engineer and procurement teams worked tirelessly to value engineer manifold designs and source the raw exotic material that was required, and meet budget expectations.

Business Development Manager for the Middle East region, Haridas Embanath said, “The expertise and experience of our engineering team are the reasons why we’ve been successful in winning project packages such as this. We were able to share our knowledge of the specifications with our clients’ teams, which was invaluable to them.” This resulted in orders being placed for over 600 manifold units with a total value of £157k.

Engineering sales support led by Sian Henrys was provided during the entire project. She says, “To have engineering and procurement teams come together to find the best solutions that meet clients’ objectives is what sets us apart from other valve suppliers, and it’s always great to see our hard work come to fruition.”

The project, which is one of the world’s largest natural gas fields, is situated off the north-east coast of the Qatar peninsula. There are two complexes that make up the project, which include two fixed steel jacket compression platforms, interconnecting bridges, interface modules, and living quarters.
